Stockton riverside festival.

WELCOME TO OUR 21ST FESTIVAL Stockton International Riverside Festival is Europe's largest free open air festival. Now in its 21st year, the festival features a spectacular 5-day programme of outdoor theatre, street entertainment, circus, music and dance, by some of the world's best artists.

The last time I visited this festival must be some 15 years ago, and I was not impressed.
I must admit now after visiting the festival this year, my opinion has changed.
It has now developed into a most wonderful spectacle, with much colour and many interesting acts.
Some acts were out of this world, and some were out of this universe.
I was particularly interested in seeing the African dancers, but I was disappointed to learn that they had forgotten to apply for "visas" and so had to be cancelled.  Mmmmmm....No doubt their agent shall be in some very hot water !!!

Below are a few photo's I snapped as I wondered round Stockton, you can view others in the album at the bottom of this page.
Needless to say I shall be there next year for the full 5 days, I visited only Friday night to see the amazing "Terrafolk".
After seeing them I decided to visit again the next day for the closing ceremony.
And very pleased I did.
A most enjoyable 7 hours.

PS. At this moment I am in some pain, resulting from a trapped nerve in my back. This happened as I was taking some of these
photos. From very awkward angles. "OUCH"

Out for two Duck's and a Frog.

Out for two duck's and a frog.

The day dawned and the sunlight streaming through my window, awakened me to a most glorious morning. I had prepared all that would be necessary for my day's fishing the night before. So, sitting in the warm sunshine I lingered a while in my back garden. Drinking my two cup's of coffee and one cup of tea, It felt wonderful and pleasent just to sit quietly, listening to the sounds of the  morning. It was indeed a warm and windless morning, perfect a thought for a day's fishing at the reservoir.

Upon my arrival at the reservoir, it became perfectly obvious that things had changed. As I opened the car door a fresh cold air hit me in the face, clouds had descended and had darkened the morning sky. I had forgotten that the reservoir was high up on the North Yorkshire Moors, and that the weather there can change in a flash. After setting up, I was soon in the water and expecting my first catch of the day. This turned out to be a frog ! It had hopped onto my shoe. " was this a omen"

Soon I began to shiver, not violently but a shiver nonetheless. Because of the calm and warm conditions  earlier, I had neglected to take with me some extra warm clothing for just this type of emergency.
(very bad mistake to make for a so called fisherman as I)
I began to shiver even more and still awaited my first bite of the day. I was obliged to ask (a little embarrassingly)  two chaps that were fishing just a few meters to my left, If I could borrow a warm pullover or something like.
They were kind enough to offer me a scarf and a black zipped cardigan with a hood. Without the help of these two fellow fishermen, I would have been forced to return home :(  At leased now the shiver had been reduced to a bearable quiver.

By the end of the day the two men I speak of caught 8 rainbow Trout, while two young boy's with there farther who were to my right had caught 5. Myself still quivering in the now misty conditions, cough zero,  yes, out for a duck.
Within a distance of some 50 Metres 13 fish had been caught, alas not one of them had been caught by me :(

To make things worse,  sometime after  noon, my bite indicator had suddenly flew into the air. I grabbed my rod and struck hard, "yes"..."yes"..."yes" at last I though, I am not going home empty handed. I could feel the fishes energy traveling up through the line into my rod and into me. He fought hard with powerful tugging as he tried desperately to free himself from the hook.
I had him halfway in, when he suddenly flew a metre out of the water, performed about a dozen pirouettes and with a flash of his silvery belly, slipped the hook.

I dare not utter the expletives, that exploded from my lip's at that moment. To say I was disappointed is a understatement,  fish, 1. Kenny. 0.

As a consolation fate cast my way a real live Duck, yes I caught a Duck. He had become entangled in my line, but I soon  had him  free and back to the water.
I was not best pleased about this happening to the poor little Duck, but they are plucky little birds and he was soon swimming about as if  nothing had happened.

My first catch of the day.

The two chaps that lent me the warm clothing are rewarded by their first catch of the day.

On my return home I was to learn that the weather there had been warm and sunny "all day long"
Oh well some days are diamond's.

Well folk's time for me to say bye bye for now.

I hope you have  better luck through the week, than I experienced the day I scored two Duck's and a Frog.
Forever the optimist I shall be returning to the reservoir soon I hope.

Love Kenny.

Dissapearing blog.

THE DISSAPEARING BLOG.

Recently the phrase  " You don't know what you got till it's gone"   became quite suddenly, hard wired home to me.
Seconds after publishing my last post, titled  "The bridle path", my blog module suddenly disappeared before my unbelieving eyes.
It was a shock to realize just how important  my space had become to me.
I became depressed, saddened and at a loss to understand how, and just why this should happen.
For day's I struggled with this problem, even opened a new account "hurriedly". I then began to invite people I had met to this new space I had constructed, so, some of you now have me twice in your friends list. This shall not be a problem as I have decided to rename this space  "CHERNO'S DEN". You are very welcome to visit Cherno and perhaps leave him the odd bone or chicken leg  :) Don't worry he dosn't bite.

After contacting "support", informing them of my problem and jumping through their hoop's. (as  PJ. so nicely termed it)
The problem  still was not resolved, I had become very disappointed and dissolutioned with the their response to my plea for help.  "Then"... I thought about the man who had helped me on previous occasions some years ago.
Many of you will know him as Mark, from  " Little fish big pond".
I e/mailed Mark describing my dilemma and his response solved the problem.  Within seconds  my blog reappeared !!!
Evidently it was just a bit of bad code that had found it's way into the blog. All I had to do was, to copy the code paste it into my note pad and then quite simply delete the code in the blog.  "Bingo"  my blog module was visible once more :))
Question :  Why did support have me running round in circles for days, when the answer was so simple.
I  have been in debt to Mark for many reasons, but this is one debt I shall never be able to repay. I only wish I could.
Mark is, in my eye's one of the top men who offers help to people on W.L.Spaces.
Check him out, you can learn much from this man.

PS :  I was so happy and relieved to have my blog back, I decided to go fishing today. Read all about the disastrous events that occurred  in my next blog. Coming soon.
OK  I am fair tuckered out, so I am off to my cot.
Nighty night all.
Kenny.

Walk with me.

Hardwick Park: A Sleeping Beauty

Hardwick Park and Garden is a splendid example of a mid 18th century planned landscape close to the village of Sedgefield in the south-east of County Durham. The Garden was created by John Burdon, the son of a Newcastle merchant and business man in his own right with interests in saltpans on the Tyne and coal mines in East Durham. Around 1750 he began to lay out some 40 acres of fashionable gardens composed of temples, follies and grottoes all set around the central feature of a 17 acre lake. Burdon employed some of the finest architects of his day and the principal buildings and park layout are attributed to the London architect James Paine.

Some months ago I discovered this little gem of a place  and  promised myself to return  in the summer to this delightful little haven.
Below are some pics I snapped as I walked around this special place, hidden along the side of the A177. It truly is  a place where one can escape the pressures of the day , and  for a hour or so wander along the winding pathways. Each bend in the path reveals another delightful vista.
